NMC uses new teacher’s evaluation
A new faculty evaluation aimed at enhancing services for students was implemented this year at the Northern Marianas College.
Considered the first step towards improving assessment and performance of all NMC faculty, this new method is a product of a two year work by the Committee to Revise the Faculty Evaluation System (CORFES).
According to NMC’s annual report submitted to the legislature, the objective was to foster positive effect upon the performance of teachers which is expected to rebound to classrooms.
To ensure this popular support, a core team was created in 1995 to assess the existing evaluation process, specifically, the identification of ways to improve the old process.
Its committee members felt that it was critical for the faculty to participate in this revision process inorder to produce a comprehensive and objective evaluation. It was also deemed important to offer room of flexibility to suit the unique features of each department.
The Dean of Arts and Sciences, together with department heads, provided the preliminary work. Later, the CORFES was convened to polish earlier proposals and facilitated faculty orientation regarding the new evaluation. In 1997, its implementation was approved by the Board of Regents.
Over the entire period of introducing the revised edition, NMC believes that the best way to ensure student success is to achieve it simultaneously with its faculty and staff.
