A health conference aimed at increasing public awareness about food and nutrition issues and concerns in the Northern Marianas will be held next month, the Department of Public Health said.

DPH co-sponsors the conference with the CNMI Food and Nutrition Council. It will be held on Feb. 10 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez said the increasing rate of chronic noncommunicable diseases in the CNMI indicates that the public needs further education on how best to take care of themselves.

The value of eating health foods and exercise will be emphasized at the conference.

“With the increasing rate of chronic noncommunicable diseases in the CNMI, the Food and Nutrition Council is truly making an impact by providing community education and awareness,” Villagomez said.

“For this reason, we must continue with renewed effort and clear direction towards ensuring food security and consumer education and protection.” GCQ
