In the many program presentations made by Nursing Director Debbie Ramaukita to high school students, she learned from such discussions that she had to convince them first to attend the Northern Marianas College before she could sell the nursing career.
Saipan Tribune found time to talk to some of the students who availed of the early registration schedule at NMC. When asked why NMC over off-island colleges and universities? Their varying reasons:

This is where I am from, this is where I live. I am a local so I should come to NMC and take my courses here.
Mark Hapdei
2nd year, from Yap
I came here to NMC because it is good. It is a small place. It is more cheaper and I know that I can take my degree here and go forward. Maybe after I finish here, I would like to go to different places. It is much easier to start here first.
Alexis Cosack
2nd year
It is really important to stay close to home and you have to explore the stuff on island. NMC is actually good. You never know until you try.
Collin Bush
11th grade, Northern Marianas Academy
For us, NMC gives us the opportunity to take college credits while you are completing high school. We earn college and high school credits at the same time.
Wentai Ye
10th grade, Northern Marianas Academy
It is sort of a requirement to come here so that’s why I come here anyway. I usually take up 12 credits or four classes. But I can carry these college credits anywhere.
Elsie Cabrera
4th year
I have my family and my husband so I want to further my education here. At least I can take my B.A. degree and later work on my masters.
Robert Castro
2nd year
It is good to start off here because once you are done you can go off-island and have a better life. Later, come back and save some money.
Eizel Mafnas
2nd year
We don’t have any other choice, but personally, I also like NMC. It is easier to adjust here. I have more opportunities here than anywhere else.
