$38,000 bail in rape, kidnapping
A $38,000 cash bail has been set for the temporary release of 28-year-old Taitano Teruo Achipan who was arrested on charges of rape, kidnapping and assault and battery.
Achipan was arrested Tuesday at Express garment in Puerto Rico where he works.
Police spokesperson Rose Ada said he did not resist arrest.
Achipan is the main suspect in the rape and kidnapping of a 28-year-old Chuukese female from Kagman last Jan. 9.
Ada said information provided by the victim and investigation conducted by the police led to an issuance of an arrest warrant.
Authorities also impounded his vehicle, a 4-door sedan, which was allegedly used by Achipan to commit the crime.
Police received the call from the victim at 10:29 p.m. last Jan. 9 about the raping incident which took place in Banzai Cliff.
The victim related that Achipan offered her a ride from her place of work but instead of taking her home, he brought her to Marpi where the alleged rape took place.
The victim was brought to CHC where she was treated and examined. The result of the examination was not available as of yesterday.
In yesterday’s bail hearing, Judge Juan T. Lizama ordered that he post $38,000 cash bail. He was ordered to stay away from the victim.
His next court appearance has been set for Jan. 28.
