Navy Hill power outage tomorrow
The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation will be replacing dangerous power poles on Navy Hill this Saturday. The poles are leaning too close to homes and roads, jeopardizing the safety of customers. In order to remove the high voltage power lines, pull out the pole and install new ones, the power will be out. The power outage will be in the government housing area of Navy Hill, including former Governor Larry Guerrero’s home, former Judge Dela Cruz’s home proceeding all the way to the Mariana Hotel. The power outage for Navy Hill will begin at 8:30 Saturday morning. The power will be restored as soon as the construction is complete and the men are out of danger but no later than 4:30 p.m.
OES outlines Cultural Heritage Day activities
Oleai Elementary School, in collaboration with the OES-PTSA, has announced the celebration of Cultural Heritage Day on March 26, 1999 at the school ground. Cutural Heritage Day is designed to celebrate the diversity of cultures that has so enriched the school. It is also meant to instilled the students pride in their own cultural identities.
This years celebration will feature several events including writing and speech contests, food tasting, and a cultural fashion show. A high point in the celebration is the proclamation of the OES Cutural King and Queen and their Royal Court. Candidates from the diffrent grade levels are vying for the prestigious titles of
Cultural King and Queen. The candidates this year are Keoki Iginoef and Sierra Rabauliman from Kindergarten; Joseph Tudela and Alana LeonGuerrero representing First Grade; Isaiah Wabol and Athena Tudela from Second Grade;Aaron DLGuerrero and Javian Lizama from third grade; Dane Diaz and Sheralyn Maniacop representing Fourth
Grade; Danmar Sanchez and Marilou Gariguez from Fith Grade; and Jack Lizama and Elaine Ogarto representing Sixth Grade.
At the same time, this cultural celebration has also been designated as a fundraiser. All proceeds from this event are earmarked to help the school in the procurement of various classroom materials. Such materials include student desks and chairs for K-3 classrooms as well as to support student incentives and programs. In view of the severe budget cuts that the school is experiencing broutht about by the economic downturn, it has become necessary to look for other avenues to support and sustain the delivery of instruction to the children.
The raffle prizes include a cash prizes of $1,500.00 donated by the OES-ptsa and $100.00 from Dolphin Corporation; a jewelry set donated by one parent; MTC calling cards totaling $120.00 and IT&E calling cards worth $100.00; piglets from Jenniffer Cepeda; dinner for 2(gift certificate) from Nikko Hotel; gift certificate for
Sunday brunch at Diamond Hotel; a speaker phone from Jess Wabol; Gift certificates from Avon courtesy of Tessies Corner; a rice cooker from Price Cosco; a 2- inch lawn mower from Pacific Trading; life jackets from PDI; a 500BTU aicon unit from World Mechanical Corp.; computer software from Computer World Technology; a $100 gift certificate from Saipan Shipping and a sack of rice from Zion Market.
