LOCAL BRIEFS CRM approves filming project
The Coastal Resources Management Office has approved the Mariana Visitors Authority’s request for a permit for a filming project by a Japanese broadcasting firm.
The project is part of MVA’s efforts to increase visitor awareness of the Northern Marianas from Japan, the island’s main tourists source.
The filming is being undertaken by Nigashi Nippon Broadcasting (KHB), a sister company of Asahi TV, whose main target audience is mainly teenagers, office workers, office ladies and university students.
According to MVA’s Managing Director Perry John Tenorio, the program will put the Northern Mariana Islands in the forefront of people’s mind as a travel destination of choice.
The filming would include feature areas like Managaha Island and all the other beaches on Saipan, Tinian and Rota. It will showcase the islands’ water sports and beach activities.
“The Bureau is in support of this project as we have an opportunity to showcase our islands’ beauty via television. More important, we believe that this would be an excellent opportunity to receive cost-effective exposure, increase travel interest and maintain market presence of our destination,” Tenorio said in a letter to CRM Director Felipe Atalig.
The talent and production crew will be on island until February 9. (Flor B. Pamintuan)
