The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation has denied reports that it will increase utility rates when it moves its corporate headquarters from Lower Base to Joeten Dandan complex

The old office will be the site of the new 80-megawatt power plant on Saipan, according to a CUC statement.

Its transfer is also aimed at serving many CUC customers closer as well as at complying with the American Disabilities Act as the Lower Base executive offices do not meet safety standards.

The Joeten complex in Dandan, where the Department of Finance also holds its offices, is leasing the upper floor to CUC at $30,000 per month, “which is cheaper that (it) is currently spending in renovations and telephone wiring services.”

CUC also said that it had advertised for competitive office space and accepted the lowest bid at $1 per square foot from Joeten Enterprises.

The government-owned firm also operates a customer service office in San Jose across from the Oleai Beach area. It is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and up to 6 p.m. on Fridays.

The San Jose office will better serve CUC customers during the transfer to Dandan whose customer service will open March 1. For customers who wish to make payment arrangements, the Credit and Collection personnel are already at the Dandan location.

Customers who normally pay monthly bills at the Lower Base location are encouraged to contact CUC at 322-4033 before driving to this location, to mail their payments, pay at the Bank of Hawaii or Bank of Guam or proceed to the San Jose office.
