An early Sunday morning car mishap along middle road rushed two victims to the Commonwealth Health Center and left half of the Sedan damaged.

Driver of the Sedan, Long Zhu Li, a 36 year old Chinese, had serious head injuries, extending to the neck and pelvis. He is scheduled to be airlifted to Guam or Hawaii for further medical attention.

Delgadina Alipuyo Asuncion, who was driving the 4×4 truck, was complaining of chest pains.

Department of Public Safety spokesperson Rose Ada said the emergency hot line received the call at 8:04 AM regarding the incident in Chalan Lau Lau.

Preliminary investigations showed that Asuncion was driving north using the inner lane and took a left turn going to the Chamolinian Market. Li was heading south and was also using the inner lane when both vehicles collided.

According to witnesses, Asuncion reportedly was spitting betel nut while driving and may have missed to see the coming Sedan.

However, DPS refused to speculate about the incident since it is still under investigation.

Its Rescue and Paramedics officers rushed to the site and performed the “jaws of life” to remove Li from the wreckage.

In a press release, DPS informed the public that a car seat checkpoint is scheduled this Friday. With the recent weekend accident, DPS is again promoting the use of car seat in celebrating the Child Passenger Safety Awareness Week.

Based on DPS guidelines, adults should never hold a child in the lap or arms while driving or riding in a car. Drivers must ensure that passengers are buckled up and should refuse to start the car until they are strapped in. It is also prohibited to drive while a child is standing up.

The DPS provides 50 percent discount coupon for car seat purchases for young passengers. To avail of the discount coupon, applicant should submit child’s birth certificate, vehicle registration and parent’s identification documents.
