The CNMI will host the 16th Annual Pacific Educational Conference scheduled on July 27 to 29 at the Marianas High School on Saipan.

With this year’s theme “Pacific Communities: Leaders of the New Millennium, this annual event gathers over 1,000 participants from the American Samoa, Chuuk, Korsae, Pohnpei, Yap, Guam, Hawaii, and the Republics of the Marshall Islands and Palau. Educators from other parts of the globe are also expected to participate.

This is the third time the CNMI is hosting the event. The Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL) co-sponsors the conference with the CNMI government, the Public School System and the Northern Marianas College.

During the entire conference, attendees will have seven opportunities to attend over 100 workshop sessions about education. A Publishers’ exhibit will present recent educational publications. Exhibitors of various educational materials are also invited.

According to Commissioner of Education Rita H. Inos, sites of the conference may extend to Tinian and Rota. A space camp presentation might be held on Rota, she said.

The Annual Pacific Educational Conference started 16 years ago at a school library on Guam and has grown to become one of the largest events for the region. Since it was founded, Pacific entities and their local Public School System and related agencies take turn hosting the event.

For the CNMI, the conference will not only bring recent issues on education, but will also gather more than 1,000 guests to local hotels and business establishments.
