Spanish Chamber group returns
The Emporda Chamber Orchestra of Spain will be here. Benefit concert is scheduled for March 23, 1999 at 7:00 PM at the Mount Carmel Cathedral. Proceeds from this grand benefit will be shared by the 50th Anniversary of the Mount Carmel Cathedral and the American Cancer Society. A special number will be performed that evening entitiled “Chamorrita Pizzicato” and dedicated to the Chamorros that Maestro Carles Coll composed after his visit to Saipan in November 1998. Featured as well is the song “La Carolinas” which was composed in 1898 during the Spanish Administration, as a tribute to the Caroline Islands and its people. Inmates case
In a press statement, the United States Attorney for the Districts of Guam and the Northern Marianas College has announced that the federal case filed against the six inmates who took part in the prison standoff last week will be handled by the CNMI Federal Grand Jury.
Based on the investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, William Sablan, Vicente Aldan Jr., Jeffrey Celis, Edwin Blas, Arcel Busto and Ryan Babauta are charged with federal offense of seven counts each on allegations of various firearms violations in connection with the recent hostage situation at the male detention center on Saipan.
Assistant United States Attorney David T. Wood and Gregory Baka will handle the case.
