Oleai school retains six-year accreditation
Oleai Elementary School has been assured its six-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges which will expire in the year 2002.
Officials from WASC ended their mid-term visit and told school and PTA officials that Oleai complied with the recommendations. Moreover, despite the austerity program, teachers and staff have remained optimistic.
According to WASC official Norman Schneider, although the official verdict is not due until the following month, he is positive that Oleai will retain its accreditation period.
“You did an outstanding job and we felt the school is deserving,” he said during a meeting with school officials, teachers and community members.
He said current concerns are directly related to the financial matters which affected the local public school system. One of its possible impact is the departure of teachers after this school year which raised concerns among WASC officials.
“Probably because teachers will not have the security that they need. But again, the school will not have control over it and I heard optimism for the most part,” he said.
After this mid-term visit, WASC officials urged Oleai School to continue its programs on staff development, extra curricular activities, upgrade on physical resources and instructional resources.
