The Northern Marianas Housing Corporation has been selected to receive the 1999 Pacific Southwest Regional Council (PSWRC) Award of Merit from the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).

This is the second year in a row that NMHC got recognized for its exemplary project in providing quality housing programs. This year, its Home Loan Program is selected as the winner for the Regional Award of Merit.

Presentation of the award will take place during a reception on May 16 at the Annual Spring Conference for NAHRO members in Palm Springs, California.

Awards are based on submissions to National NAHRO which oversees eight regional councils – the PSWRC, Pacific Northwest, Southwest, North Central, Mountain Plains, New England, Middle Atlantic and Southeastern.

NAHRO members strive to “create affordable housing and safe, viable communities that enhance the quality of life for all Americans, especially those of low- and moderate-income.”

It ensures that its members are well-trained, educated, informed and have the tools to care for the respective communities. NAHRO advocates for pertinent legislation and procedures which will serve the people’s needs. NAHRO also fosters high standard of ethics for the conduct, effort and the accountability of its members.

NMHC received the NAHRO National Award of Merit in 1998, for its Resident and Client Services. It was the first ever recognition that NAHRO made for the agency since it joined the association about two decades ago.

In 1995, NMHC also received a Special Achievement Award from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for its Community Planning and Development Programs.

This is also the second award this year that NMHC is recognized for its great work. On March 22, 1999, it received the 1999 Governor’s Annual Award as the Most Inclusive Public Entity of the Year.

Thus far, it has received four awards. Three of them are national and regional and one local. These recognition are indicative of the dedicated staff, management and board members of the NMHC.
