Bar Association to stage mock trial
This Saturday, students from the Marianas High School, Mt. Carmel and Marianas Baptist Academy will don the robe designed for the justices during a mock trial at the Supreme Court.
According to a press statement, teams from each school will either defend or prosecute the case involving a hit and run incident. While a legal counsel will help schools take this mock trial into a realistic level.
Sponsored by the CNMI Bar Association, members Robert Torres, Jose Bermudes and Sheila Bowman will each assist the three schools.
During the last Attorney General’s Cup for speech competition, its President Ramon Villagomez announced the presentation of a mock trial this weekend.
“We would like to develop our teams,” he said, and cited that Guam placed second during the 1998 national mock trial competition held in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
With this year’s commencement of the mock trial program, he is optimistic that the CNMI can follow a similar route to the national level.
“This program will further enhance our young people’s interest in the field of law and governance,” he told the audience.
Impressed by the seven speakers from various high schools who vied for the title, he said good communicators make good lawyers.
