NMC establish ties with Asian university
The recent signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Northern Marianas College and the Asian International University based in Vietnam is expected to bring both financial gain and regional recognition to the lone post secondary institution in the CNMI.
As provided for in the agreement, NMC would earn additional income from the tuition and fees to be generated from these off-island students.
The MOU paves the way for the two institutions to pursue academic and cultural exchanges in the areas of education, research and tourism, according to special education adviser Dan Nielsen.
Likewise, the linkage will run for a period of three years of student and faculty exchanges, joint cultural programs, research project and training.
In a press statement, AIU President Young Wang said its ties with NMC will encourage other institutions in Asia and the Pacific to follow suit. The AIU has also maintained linkage with other universities in the Asian region.
“In this way, our students and faculty will broaden their knowledge and experience, and our respective cultures will grow closer in appreciation, respect and friendship,” he said.
Since it started in 1983, NMC has established linkage with the University of Guam and other institutions in the Pacific and Asia.
