Clinton names Hawaii woman as community rep to Pacific
Honolulu, Hawaii (May 16, 1999/Hulsen)— President Bill Clinton has named Hawaii businesswoman Karen Lau Sullivan as US representative to the Pacific Community, according to a recent announcement in Washington.
Sullivan, who owns the Hawaii real estate investment and development corporation, Hoaloha Ventures, formerly worked as a White House staff and at the Department of Transportation during the administration of President Jimmy Carter.
She previously served on the staff of the Honolulu-based East-West Center.
The United States is one of 27 Pacific Community member-countries and territories. The regional organization, headquartered in Noumea, New Caledonia, was founded in 19478 as the South Pacific Commission to promote economic and social advancement in the Pacific.
