In a letter addressed to U.S. congressmen and senators, the president of the Chinese Bible Church has slammed at the false allegations against the CNMI that were reported over ABC’s 20/20 program.

“… we are dismayed and mocked by the misleading news of the ABC at the 20/20 program,” said President Christian Wei of the Christian organization, which has established the Eucon International School on Saipan.

According to Wei, he is no stranger to the affairs in the CNMI. Since 1994, the mission has been engaged in the Christian ministries on Saipan, particularly with the Chinese workers.

Together with Rev. Kok Hiong Pang, a missionary from Singapore, Christian groups had gained access in reaching out to the Chinese workers in the Northern Marianas.

Over these years of ministry work with the Chinese population in the Commonwealth, he was convinced that their life is better here compared back home.

“Most of the Chinese laborers that worked in the factories here are satisfied with the situation. This is because they know that wouldn’t have the freedom back home,” he said in his letter.

Together with this “democratic” environment is the freedom to worship God and to enjoy the pay from hard work.

“I am not saying that everything here on Saipan is perfect. However, those cases that the ABC presented were rare cases,” he said.

Wei also pointed out that after the senate hearing last year, garment factories have strive harder to offer better deals to their workers like offering free transportation for workers who are going to the church and assigned a special place for worship inside their working area.

“We would like also to urge you not to support any bill that prohibits the freedom of importing laborers to Saipan so that we will have more opportunities to see souls being saved,” he said.
