Fleming vowed support for kindergarten

Board of Education Chairman Esther Fleming yesterday vowed to lobby for funding to ensure the continuity of the kindergarten program of the Public School System.

“This is the foundation of your formal education and we would continue to look for funding to provide for a free kindergarten program,” she told the young graduates of Garapan Elementary School.

Fleming was the speaker for the kindergarten graduation of Garapan, where over 100 students earned their first diploma.

A few months back, the entire elementary schools of PSS postponed the kindergarten registration after officials wanted to make sure that enough people are on board.

With this commitment from the Board, Fleming also promised to look for supplemental funding to provide for the materials needed in kindergarten classes.

“This is the foundation of what these students would become and we would like to make their classes more conducive to teaching and learning,” she said.

Mount Carmel graduates
are spiritually nurtured

The Mount Carmel High School marked its 39th commencement exercise Tuesday night with 50 graduates who have been nurtured and nourished in faith by a community of believers.

School President Kathleen Sarmiento underscored this spiritual feature as she handed graduates their diplomas signifying their readiness to pursue college education.

In her message to the graduating class, she encouraged them to choose life in order to live and to constantly nurture the seeds of divinity inside them.

“Success is a journey not a destination,” she told graduates.

Class valedictorian Christina Marie Stolfi Sablan urged her classmates to return to the CNMI after completing their college.

“I do want to come back to Saipan and I would like to encourage others to come back. I would like to rediscover my island and I want to help the island. Saipan needs help,” she said.
