Thumbs down on ABC's 20/20
Your recent expose on Saipan (The Shame of Saipan) makes it sound that our
Commonwealth is infested with prostitution and bursting at its seam.
Little could this be further from the truth.
Prostitution is rampant around the world, and being the oldest profession, town, city, island, or religion is immune from this type of industry; but to
paint a picture that Saipan has overtaken the escapades of Bangkok, Manila, and
other Asian Sex Capitals is journalism at its poorest.
Foremost, your investigation into the misfortunes of Katrina forgot to ask
question.
Who processed and approved her forged passport and birth
certificate—surely, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, does not
nor can not.
In the case of a US citizen, the State Department handles these matters—even for those souls that are born in the CNMI.
Now, if the investigator would have done his homework, he would have found out that Katrina, poor Katrina is a citizen of the Republic of the Philippines; with this fact exposed, never did Congressman George Miller, nor the State Department ever
file
a letter of protest to the proper agency that issues Philippine Passports.
Now for the matter of the Garment Mogul, Mr. Willie Tan—Willie will be
Willie!!! But, you should note that your investigator deceived Willie, and Willie did likewise and deceived your Joe Friday.
Could be a case of “tit for tat.”
Lastly, did your investigator look further into the reasons why Congressman George Miller is hell bent on ruining the CNMI.?
Again if your investigative reporter would have noted that most of his campaign funds come from the coffers of labor unions. But from the CNMI standpoint, Congressman Miller is just one bully that wants to bankrupt one of the few insular areas within the United
States that receives very little federal handouts.
Sincerely,
Antonio R. Cabrera
Former Secretary of Finance
