DPS seat belt/DUI check

Department of Public Safety will be conducting a seat belt and DUI Checkpoint this week.

DPS would also like to remind the public that they are giving out $50.00 (fifty dollars) vouchers for the purchasing of car seats. For more information, please call the Office of Special Programs at 664-9120-7.

Youth art workshop

The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture will be sponsoring the 2nd Summer Youth Arts Workshop & Exhibition from July 5 through August 4, 1999 at the CNMI Gallery for Arts and Culture on Capitol Hill.

The hands-on workshops will include printing, traditional dances, country arts and crafts and paper mache and will be held from July 5-23, 1999.

An exhibit of all completed work will be on display from July 28 to August 4, 1999 at the gallery to cap the month-long event.

Registration for the workshop will begin on Wednesday, June 23, 1999. from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and will close on Monday June 28, 1999 at 4:00 PM. Registration fee is $25.00 per student and will include all materials and supplies and refreshments.

The workshop is open to children 6 to 12 years old and is limited to only 40 participants. Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis.

More military
training at Farallon

The Naval Special Warfare Unit-1, Special Boat Detachment “H” will be conducting Special Operations training consist of long range navigation (LRN) problems and live fire (LF) on the island of Farallon de Mendenilla.

The scheduled dates and time of the training are from Tuesday through Thursday, June 22-24, 1999 and will promptly commence at 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The general are of this training will be on the island of Farallon de Mendenilla Training Area (R-7201), from surface to 5,000 feet mean sea level (MSL) on a 10 nautical mile radius on a quadrants.

Due to the danger imposed by this training, the general public, especially tour operators, fishermen and commercial pilots are strongly advised to stay away from this area during the time and dates indicated.
