Soil and water conservation
district meeting

The Saipan and Northern Islands Soil and Water Conservation District would like to inform the general public that there will be a district meeting on July 6, 1999 at 2:00 PM at the Natural Resources Conservation Service Office in Garapan.

The Saipan Interagency Watershed meeting has also been scheduled for July 14, 1999 at 9:30 AM at the Department of Public Works.

American Antiquarian
Society fellowship

The American Antiquarian Society is now accepting applications for fellowships for historical research by creative and performing artists, writers, film makers and journalists.

Deadline for submission of application is Monday, October 4, 1999. Applicants will be notified on or about December 3, 1999.

The program, funded by Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest, is designed to enhance ways in which history is communicated to the American people.

Fellowships will be provided to people whose research objective are to produce works dealing with the pre-twentieth American history designed for the general public rather than for the academic and educational communities. The fellowships will allow recipients to conduct uninterrupted research, reading and collegial discussion at
AAS , which houses the world’s preeminent and most accessible collection of American printed materials before the 20th century.

At least three fellowships will be awarded for residence of four weeks at the Society for any time between January 1 and December 31, 2000. The stipend will be $1,200 per month, plus travel expense allowance.
