Saipan retains district title; moves to 1999 Little League Far-East tourney

Saipan retains their crown after clobbering the Tinian All-Stars 10-0 and crushing Rota All-Stars 12-2 in last weekend's Third Annual CNMI District Little League Baseball Tournament.

Saipan retains their crown after clobbering the Tinian All-Stars 10-0 and crushing Rota All-Stars 12-2 in last weekend’s Third Annual CNMI District Little League Baseball Tournament.

The win sends them back to Rota in middle July for the 1999 Far-East Regional tournament.

Aldebert Santos’ sensational performance defensively and offensively was the main factor in the opening game. Santos connected a solid drive past the left field fence for a solo shot, pitched 4 strong innings, gave up one hit no runs, walk four batters also scored 2 times, knocked in two runs as well as Angel Falig added in with
2 hits 2 runs scored and one RBI, Brian Vergith also plated in 2 runs and John Peter Sablan slapped a routine grounder that sends in Santos for the 10 run of the game and there goes the ten run mercy rule.

Saipan defeated host Rota Sunday 12-2, also on a ten-run mercy as they connected 15 hits. Saipan All-Stars allowed only 2 runs in 9 innings combined in both games.

Paul Perry Santos and Daryl Ada provided the solid 1-2 combination on the mound against Rota as Saipan stopped the Rota in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Other members of the Saipan Little League all-stars are Gary Cruz and Maynard Duenas, of the Garapan Pirates; B.J. Sablan, Myron San Nicolas and Angel Falig, of the Tanapag Braves; Rusco Misch, Dandan Blue Jays; and Cesario Agulto, Kautz Glass Glazers.
