Fujian gang member to be deported
A man believed to be a member of a crime syndicate from China was released from detention Friday to face deportation proceedings.
Guo Hua Chen, who was convicted of extortion, has been released after the US District Court sentenced him to imprisonment for a term he had already served.
Chen was arrested in 1995 based on a complaint from Chinese businessman Ying Chao Wu, who was among the victims of extortion activities by members of the so-called Fujian Gang.
Chen was charged with “conspiracy to interfere with commerce by extortion.”
Federal Judge Munson Alex Munson ordered Chen to pay Wu $768 representing the amount which Chen had drawn from the victim.
Chen will be turned over to the Department of Labor and Immigration, which will initiate the deportation proceedings.
