Kagman school delay worries Teno
Unaware of the plan by the Public School System to terminate the contract of Pac United Corp. on the Kagman school, Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio yesterday urged both parties to settle their differences to avoid delay in the completion of the critical infrastructure project of his administration.
“They have to come up with amicable solution to make sure the project would continue (and) be completed by next school year. Of course, it’s up to the PSS to make sure that they comply with the requirements of the project,” he told reporters.
PSS officials reportedly are frustrated with the pace and performance of Pac United in building the Kagman Elementary School. The $6 million project was set for completion by October, but would likely be finished by next April as it is now 10 weeks behind schedule.
They have also warned the contractor to “shape up” and improve its work or else PSS will be forced to terminate its initial agreement. The agency has claimed materials used by Pac United are inferior and don’t comply with the terms of the contract.
The construction firm has yet to respond to the charges.
According to Tenorio, the school is one of the key infrastructure projects of the government and all efforts must be taken to complete the new facility when the next school years opens in September.
“I am not aware of this move by PSS,” he explained. “They have to do something at this time. I was not informed if (Pac United is) is not meeting the deadline in the completion of the project.”
The local chief executive, however, defended education officials for the decision, saying they have a reason for studying the possibility of scrapping its initial deal with the contractor.
“Kagman is very important, especially the school. I would like to see that the project is finished so that next school year they could use the new school building,” Tenorio said.
