Private sector urged to promote Saipan-Da mascot
Governor Pedro P. Tenorio is urging the private sector to support the Marianas Visitors Authority’s Saipan-da Mascot Tourism Campaign as part of the tourism office’s ‘Visit the Marianas ’99’ campaign.
All private sector businesses are asked to encourage their staff to wear and display the Saipan-da pins and poster at their office and business establishments.
Saipan-da is the new mascot adopted in 1999 by the MVA Board in its effort to promote the Northern Mariana Islands throughout Japan and Asia as a truly unique tropical paradise. MVA decided that the islands needed to continually step up its promotion efforts on island as well.
This community-wide effort is part of MVA’s new marketing approach aimed at providing continuity to existing marketing campaign carried abroad. More importantly, tourists will feel appreciated, as they know that local residents value their visit to the Northern Marianas.
It is hoped that wearing the Saipan-da pin with a smile will make CNMI’s visitors feel welcome, as well as increase local awareness about the importance of tourism as the backbone o f the local economy.
Companies that cater to the tourism industry, including travel agencies, airline companies, couriers, hotels/motels, restaurants and diners, tourist shopping centers, department stores and specialized store outlets, golf resorts, and tourist recreational outlets, among others, are urged to participate. A similar advisory from the governor was issued to all government heads and employees.
Saipan-da pins may be obtained from the MVA offices at the Professional Building in Oleai next to Mazda Midway Motors. For more information please call 664-3200.
