Rota to host 1999 Little League
Far-East tournament
Far-East Region Deputy Director for Little League baseball James, together with the Rota Little League Baseball Association and the overall organizing committee has put extra hours in the much needed time of preparation for the upcoming Little League Far-East Region Baseball Tournament to be held in Rota on Saturday.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:00 AM followed by a game between the CNMI and Guam. Teams from the Philippines, Guam, Korea, Hong Kong, CNMI and defending champion Japan will be competing in the tournament.
Saipan will represent the CNMI after defeating Rota and Tinian in the district tournament also held in Rota in June.
Japan in the is expected to put up a strong fight to enter the World Series, after it was defeated by the Toma River in the 52nd Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
This year’s World Series will be played out at the remodeled Liyog Baseball Field.
The Far-East team is placed in the international pool along with Europe and Latin America. The United States pool is composed of USA Central, West, East and South.
Guam-Saipan bowling
tournament
The Saipan Youth Bowling Association will host the Guam Youth Bowling Association for the 3rd Annual Friendship Tournament on July 23rd to 25th at the Saipan Bowling Center.
A delegation of 57 bowlers and officials will arrive on Saipan for the event, which will start at 9:00 AM on Saturday, according to organizers. Around 80 participants are expected to compete in the tournament.
Last year’s masters winners in the girls division, Kathy Pangelinan, remains a strong contender. Guam’s Sung Min Chang, defending champion for the boys division, will be challenged by Saipan’s top three finishers in last year’s tournament, namely Jon Tenorio, Jon Hensley and Ian Cabrera.
According to organizers, participants in the yearly friendship competition should be at the bowling center by 8:30 AM.
Participants are requested to be at the bowling center at 8:30 AM.
