The Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands (BANMI) is organizing the 1999-2000 Island-Wide Men’s Basketball League.
Entry into the league is limited to eight teams The league will consist of a single round robin and double elimination playoffs.
Entry fee is $700.00. The first eight teams that will turn in entry forms and fees will be admitted to the league. No entries will be accepted after this.
Funds should be turned in BANMI president Abner Venus at Microl Corporation or to vice president Tony Rogolofoi at the gym.
Final organizational meeting will be held on Thursday, August 19, 1999, at 6:00 PM at the G.C. Ada Gymnasium conference room, and during which participating teams will decide when the league will start, as well as elect BANMI’s officers.
Venus said he was encouraged by the CNMI men’s team’s performance in the 11th South Pacific Games in Guam. The local team won three games against five losses and placed 10th.
“I am encouraged by the development of basketball in the CNMI. We’ve got another major competition next year, the Micronesian Basketball Confederation Tournament, which will be held in Majuro. The Island-Wide Men’s Basketball League helps us prepare for that tournament. I am confident that we can build on our experiences at the SPG in Guam, and field a team in Majuro which will bring a medal home to the CNMI”, Venus said.
The league organizers are requesting interested teams to call Venus at 234-5911, Rogolofoi at 234-1001 or Mike White at 234-6547.
Basketball coach

The Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands (BANMI) is seeking applications from persons who wish to coach the CNMI men’s 22-and-under basketball team.
The team will participate in the Oceania 22-and-Under Championships, which will be held in Vanuatu in May of 2000.
Anyone interested in coaching this team should submit a letter of interest and a statement of qualifications to BANMI as soon as possible to Mike White at his law office in Susupe or contact him at 234-6547.
