Ex-tourism managing director launches campaign
Saying the local people needs someone who will truly represent them, the former managing director of the defunct Marianas Visitors Bureau, Anicia Q. Tomokane, vowed Saturday to deliver the basic needs of the community.
The feisty Tomokane fired the first salvo of her campaign for a seat in the House of Representatives in Chalan Kanoa (Precint 2) under the Reform Party during a gathering of friends and relatives.
According to Tomokane, the people in Chalan Kanoa feels neglected as the village has the worst water condition on the island. With her previous experience in public service, she said she will be able to carry out the task of serving the local people in the area.
“We need to have representatives that will ensure all our issues and concerns are effectively addressed,” said Tomokane.
Her decision to run in the coming November polls was due to the demand of a growing number of people in Chalan Kanoa for her community involvement, she said. Tomokane and her running mate Ben Sablan will race against House Speaker Diego T. Benavente and Rep. Oscar Babauta in the midterm elections.
“The people have spoken loud and clear that we need new leadership to represent our needs and concerns that have not been served fairly and efficiently,” said Tomokane.
She said she will make sure that Precint 2 will be considered in every CNMI project and plan of action for the Capital Improvement Projects, education, social and economic development.
To accomplish these community needs and public services, Tomokane said there must be an office that’s accessible to the community and not merely an office in Capitol Hill.
“The people are definitely ready to turn the Benavente-Babauta ticket up-side down,” she said.
