Teno: ‘Ingram was not drunk’
Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio is still mum on the fate of embattled Public Safety Commissioner Charles Ingram even after meeting with him the other day to get first hand account of his alleged run-in with the law.
He told reporters yesterday he would await result of an on-going investigation on the incident before taking any administrative action against his Cabinet official.
But the governor defended Ingram from allegations that he was drunk when he almost struck down a pedestrian along Beach Road in Chalan Laulau, noting the police chief doesn’t drink alcohol.
“When you say drunk, I don’t believe it. Some people say he is not consuming any alcohol. Softdrinks maybe,” Tenorio said. “An accusation that he was drunk? Unless that could be proven.”
The official report did not mention any hint that Ingram was drunk when the incident occurred at dawn Sunday nor a car chase that ensued between the top DPS official and police responding to an earlier information.
The department’s Internal Affairs is still investigating the incident, and Tenorio said Ingram had assured him that “he will be happy to respond to some of the allegations.”
He also stressed that he would be on top of any development from the probe, including a forthcoming report that will be handed over to the Attorney General’s Office for possible future action by his administration.
“I’m looking into it,” the chief executive explained. “As soon as the investigation is done, they will submit it to the Attorney General for their review. I will be kept informed of the report on the result of the investigation.” (Benhur C. Saladores)
