Brigade to march through Marine Beach
In August, Saipan’s Clean-up Brigade worked wonders at Old Man By the Sea, picking up enough trash and litter to make the site look the best it has in months. For September, the group has decided to make it a little easier on themselves by selecting Marine Beach in Kagman. The Brigade will meet this Saturday, Sept. 4th, at 8:00 am.
The Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ) sponsors the monthly clean-up Brigade. Comprised entirely of volunteers, the group meets on the first Saturday of each month to pick up litter from one of Saipan’s many beaches.
“Last month was very rewarding but pretty tough,” said organizer Kathy Yuknavage. “We’re looking forward to cleaning up Marine Beach which has an easier access.” For those folks not familiar with Marine Beach, volunteers from DEQ will station themselves at Brother’s Market in Kagman I at 8:00 am this Saturday. They will then point volunteers to the site.
As always, gloves and bags will be provided. Beverages will be offered too. T-shirts are given to members who participate in at least three Clean-up events. And last month saw the first issuance of baseball caps to the Brigade’s Gold members – those who have participated in at least ten events. “The hats are definitely cool,” said Yuknavage. “Everyone should try to get one.”
