The Attorney General’s Office yesterday filed criminal charges against the son of former Sen. Herman Manglona in connection with the Sept. 8 “spitting” incident during the media’s coverage of the indictment hearing involving the former senator.

Herman Manglona Jr. was charged with assault and battery and disturbing the peace.

Assistant Atty. General Marvin Williams filed the case in the Superior Court based on the complaint lodged by MCV News cameraman Tony Cobb.

The incident took place when local reporters were waiting outside the Horiguchi building, where federal investigators were hearing the former senator’s bribery case in a closed-door session.

After the hearing, Manglona Jr. came out of the building, apparently displeased with the presence of the media. He approached Cobb and spat a mouthful of refreshment drink on his face. The act was captured on camera.

Manglona Sr. resigned from the Senate after pleading guilty to bribery charges. (MCM)
