Local reservist called to Bosnia
Ronald H. Mandell, a resident of Tanapag, Saipan, was recently called to active duty under the Presidential Selected Reserve Call-up Act, in support of the Bosnia Peace-Keeping operation, otherwise known as Operation Joint Forge. “Ron”, as he is known by his friends, is a Major in the Army Reserve.
Maj Mandell, received his orders from the Army on November 1, and was directed to report to Fort Benning, Georgia, no later than 28 Nov 99, for processing, training and orientation. His orders specified that he was to be mobilized for a period not to exceed 270 days (9 months).
Following nine days of intensive preparation at Fort Benning, which were to include medical screening; numerous injections; issue of cold weather clothing and combat equipment; mine and booby-trap awareness; weapons re-qualification; protective gas mask fitting; country overview; and combat tactics training, MAJ Mandell was scheduled to depart for Bosnia by Dec 7th.
Maj. Mandell serves as a Deputy Marshal with the CNMI Superior Court, and commands an Army Reserve Detachment, here in Saipan.
