An old friend of Saipan recently came back after nine years of absence. Dai-ichi Hotel Saipan Beach has announced the appointment of Haruhiko Okubo as its new general manager. He assumed the post last Dec. 1.

Mr. Okubo succeeded Izumi Kinoshita, who left Saipan last week to assume a new role in Dai-ichi Hotel, Tokyo.

Miki Kawanabe, president of Dai-ichi Guam and Saipan, said he is confident that Mr. Okubo will be able to successfully carry out his job on the island. “I am certain Mr. Okubo will do very well since he is no stranger to Saipan,” he said.

Mr. Okubo held the position as assistant general manager of Dai-ichi Hotel Saipan Beach on October 1,1988 for two years. It was during that time when the first wing of the hotel with 170 rooms opened its door to the public.

Mr. Okubo was later assigned to Dai-ichi Hotel in Guam where he served as assistant general manager. It did not take long for the hotel management to promote Mr. Okubo as general manager, a position he held until he was transferred to Saipan on the first of this month.

“I am optimistic that the hotel will not only operate smoothly, but will also enhance the economy of Saipan as well,” said Mr. Kawanabe, who has a regular visitor of Saipan for nearly two decades.
