Christmas Arts and Crafts Exhibit on Tinian

The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture in cooperation with Tinian Dynasty Hotel has sponsored a Christmas Arts and Crafts Exhibit in Tinian on December 16, 1999 until Dec. 20, 1999.

The four-day exhibit has featured traditional crafts maker and artists from Saipan and Tinian. During the opening reception on Friday, Dec. 17th, a number of traditional performers entertained the crowd.

Mr. Anthony Ha, general manager of Tinian Dynasty Hotel said, “This project is a good start to show the people of Marianas particularly the Tinian Community our commitment in preserving and promoting the arts and culture we have here and to attract the visiting tourists what we can offer them during their stay.”

“I would like to see more of this event here in Tinian Dynasty Hotel in the future,” he added.

Among the performers were Mix Culture and Talaabwog Men Stick Dancers from Saipan, Island Dancers from Tinian and songs were rendered by Joseph San Nicolas accompanied by Edgar A. of Tinian.

Throughout the exhibit, participating artists performed actual demonstration of their craft, including Saipan artists Angie Limes (mwar-bead weaver) and Joaquina Ruak (coconut frond weaver); artists from Tinian were Beverly Battaglia (mixed media), Ramon Aldan and Jose B. King (woodcraft), Martha Bantolino (needlework), Jose B. San Nicolas (coconut frond weaver).
