Commitment for the 21st Century
The Issue: The dawn of a bright new morning has descended upon the pearly isles of the Northern Marianas.
Our View: Let us begin anew and work together in proactive fashion to build a stronger bridge of prosperity.
The new millennium has just begun. We hope that the NMI is prepared to actively meet the great change brought about by the ongoing information and technology revolution.
We hope too the NMI will grow into a wholesome and dynamic community as it deals with the various challenges presented by the new age.
The Tribune has renewed determination to playing an active role in accomplishing the goal of progressive and positive changes so that the NMI turns into a more dynamic island community poised and well suited to the new age.
One such challenge is the need to forge a short and long term socio-economic plan sanctioned by both branches of government. If need be, local government should employ the use of Think Tanks to formulate such plan given that they are poised with journalistic mind set for the required task ahead. It should ably present a realistic socio-economic blue print taking into account emerging changes in the new age.
The dawn of a new age mandates leadership to play a proactive role in embracing the changes wrought by new paradigms in building the bridge of lasting prosperity. Such generosity to change in the new age is the road to the future. And the future is right here and now. It isn’t found in mañana. It is in proactivity!
While the Tribune believes in freedom of expression and of the press, we equally are wary that such freedoms come with responsibility. We refuse to play any destructive role in irresponsible self-indulgence as to destroy the fundamental rights of citizens, public order and standards of decency. We will constantly strive to stay focus so we don’t lose sight of our purpose and role as a news organization in the Northern Marianas Community. We pledge to guard such freedom and other freedoms we have fought so hard for, including the right to self-government as we attend to the task of rebuilding the image and investment stability of these pearly isles.
We will remain loyal, as in the past, to the basic tenets of journalism, commitment of fairness and uphold the democratic principles of freedom, accountability and justice for all. We are convinced that by honestly doing so, we will be able to live up to the trust of our readers in our news reporting. Let us join hands for the daunting task ahead. Si Yuus Maase` yan ghilisow!
