Would you like to complete your high school education? Then sign up for courses that can help you do so this Thursday and Friday from 1-6 p.m. at the Adult Basic Education (ABE) Office at Northern Marianas College.

“We have two programs to meet students’ needs,” ABE Director Fe Calixterio said.

“The Adult Basic Education Program uses a conventional academic approach that prepares students for the General Education Diploma or GED while the Adult School uses a life experiences approach modeled on a Hawaii high school equivalency program” she said.

Classes are available during the day and in the evenings for working people. Schedules are available at the ABE Office and instruction begins January 26 and 27.

Students must be at least 16 years old and have been out of school for at least six months to attend adult education courses. New students are expected to take free English and Math placement tests which will be offered Wednesday, January 19 in Room K-1 beginning at 12:30 p.m.

“The best part is that classes are free to U.S. citizens, citizens of Palau, the FSM, and the Marshalls, and those who have immediate relative status,” Calixterio said. The only charge for them is a $10 refundable deposit for textbooks. All other groups pay $40 per class plus the refundable book deposit.

Sign up for classes will be held in Room K-1 across from the ABE Office in the middle of the NMC campus Thursday, January 20 and Friday, January 21 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Those interested in attending regular NMC academic and vocational courses this spring semester should know that registration for new students will also be held this week, Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
