BOE reminds Tinian businessmen of liquor ban on election day
The Board of Elections yesterday reminded retailers and grocery store owners on Tinian that the official ban on the selling of alcoholic beverages will be imposed during the entire election proceedings on Saturday.
A media statement from the elections board emphasized that the ban on the selling of liquor and other alcoholic beverages in the island will be on from 7:00am to 7:00pm.
At the same time, the BOE urged political parties, as well as all candidates for public offices and their supporters, to observe election laws, including the prohibition to actively campaign on the polling day.
“No person or group of persons may post or transport names, pictures or posters, or other campaign materials, or set up booth within the area of the polling place, or within 100 feet,” the BOE statement added.
The BOE has also designated the Tinian Elementary School as the polling place for the Jan. 22, 2000 special elections. It said no one is allowed to post campaign materials within 100 feet of the four corners of the fenced perimeters of the elementary school.
“All signs erected within 100 feet of the polling place must be taken down by 7:00am on Jan. 22, 2000. All political signs found in violation, regardless if they are on public lands, will be removed by election officials on the day of the election,” the BOE added.
