Free concert kicks off new radio station

Saipan's newest number one radio station, 101.1 FM KCNM "Music of the Pacific" will host a free concert on Saturday, Jan. 30th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the American Memorial Park.

Saipan’s newest number one radio station, 101.1 FM KCNM “Music of the Pacific” will host a free concert on Saturday, Jan. 30th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the American Memorial Park.

The station plays exclusively music from throughout the Pacific region, and has grown in popularity since transmitter testing began in late November. The station is owned and operated by Inter Island Communications, which also operates 103.9 KZMI and 1080 KCNM-AM.

“The CNMI has deserved a radio station of its own for a long time”, said general manager Joe Tighe. “So much of the music played on radio is based on stateside demographics rather than serving the community. We intend to make 101.1 a reflection of the CNMI and its people.”

The concert will feature the Oloomway Band, J.J. Concepcion and Para Y Isla band, Ben Lam Lam San Nicolas, Kelvin Duenas, Kevin Atalig, KC deLeon Guerrero and the Midlife Crisis Band, and many other popular performers.

There will be activities for the kids, and food and drinks will be on sale. There will also be prize giveaways throughout the concert.

For more information, contact Joe Tighe at 234-7239.
