The first of a series of seminars designed to enhance the technology skills of teachers will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, on the campus of Northern Marianas College. The seminars are funded by a Preparing Tomorrow’s Teachers for Technology, or PT3, Capacity Building grant awarded the CNMI Technology Consortium by the U. S. Department of Education.

The consortium consists of Northern Marianas College, the Public School System, the CNMI Museum of History and Culture (MHC), and the Pacific Resources for Education and Learning (PREL). The grant funds training for mentor teachers who in turn will work with NMC teachers-in-training.

These teachers-in-training will then work with students in mentoring classes to create web-based presentations. The Museum of History and Culture will assist students as they develop presentations focusing on themes of indigenous history and culture.

The consortium was awarded $140,162 from the U. S. Department of Education as 41.53 percent of the capacity building grant. The grant, matched by $205,650 in-kind contributions, or 59.47 percent of the total, makes up the $345,812 technology training project.
