An 11th grade student from the Grace Christian Academy emerged grand prize winner in the Student Essay Contest for high school sponsored by the Community Guidance Center in December last year.

The contest was held by the Community Guidance Center among high school and middle school students in efforts to promote public awareness for the annual Mental Health & Substance Abuse Awareness Month.

Students from Grace Christian Academy, Hopwood Junior High, Mount Carmel School and Marianas Baptist Academy provided written essays that expressed “Why it is important to stay drug-free?” for middle schools and “If I were Governor, what would I do to help the community stay drug-free and have good mental health?” for high schools.

In the high school division, Karen Ann dela Llana, an 11th grader from Grace Christian Academy won first place award. BJ M. Taisague came in second place; and Jerlisa Arizala won third prize. Both are from Marianas Baptist Academy.

Mount Carmel School students grabbed all three places in the middle school division. Michael Owen DeLeon Guerrero won first place; Christopher Cruz won second place; and Alaysha Mafnas Muna bagged third place.
