JAL sponsors Snow Festival at La Fiesta
It is an annual event that many kids on the island look forward to especially since it is something which the CNMI cannot have.
With a huge crowd, mostly children, gathered at La Fiesta Shopping Mall last Saturday to witness and participate in the 7th Annual Snow Festival, there is no doubt that the event has come a long way.
Every year, Japan Airlines brings in a huge container of snow from Hokkaido so that the children would somehow have an idea on the big difference in climate with the neighboring country.
Yukiharu Enomoto, JAL district manager, said the JAL group of companies would like to share to the children something which they would just normally read in books or watch on videos.
Some 14 schools participated in the Snow Sculpture Contests. The winners were Mt. Carmel, 1st place; Japanese Community School, 2nd place; and Saipan International School, 3rd place.
The Marianas Visitors Authority, which co-sponsored the event traced the deep rooted ties with the people of Japan that made the cultural exchange very special.
MVA Deputy Managing Director Vicky Benavente noted that the snow festival has become a highly anticipated annual event for the children from Saipan, Rota and Tinian as this is the only time the children from the Northern Marianas can enjoy this special treat.
