Governor Pedro P. Tenorio has designated Special Assistant for Women’s Affairs Ana S. Teregeyo to lead a three-member delegation to the Secretariat for the Pacific Community’s Micronesian Sub-regional technical meeting in Kiribati.

The meeting will be held from March 8-10, 2000. Also representing the CNMI are Rose Terlaje Pangelinan, representing the Women’s Affairs Office, and Maria (Frica) Tudela Pangelinan, who represents the non- governmental organization Para Hita/Ghiisch.

The meeting will gather women from all over the South Pacific region in an effort to identify priority activities and national commitments made during the United Nations Fourth World Conference in Beijing in 1995.

It is the Secretariat for the Pacific Community’s aim to help women in the region define priorities for technical programming that will help advance the cause of Pacific women. A program direction that will help identify issues within the next three to five years will be presented to the women during the three day conference.

“The CNMI’s involvement in this meeting is important since the outcome of this gathering will help the Commonwealth leaders determine what assistance they can get to improve and enhance the status of women on the islands,” Ms. Teregeyo said.

Ms. Teregeyo said the Women’s Affairs Office will look closely at the programs that will be considered during the meeting so that it may be able to tap grants and technical assistance that CNMI women can use to further develop and enhance their role in society.
