Pepsi Spec 18, Team Familia 8

It was dramatic night in the Saipan Softball Slowpitch League last Tuesday at the Susupe Softball Field with Pepsi Spec keeping their hopes alive for a playoff spot eliminating Team Familia with a sixth inning, 18-8, shut-out in the first game.

In the second game of the night, Team Sedi Kau upset the league leading Angeaur Comets, 20-10, in five innings to make the pennant race more interesting between the Comets and the Camacho Roots, which later on in the final game of the night demolished Toles Gone in five innings, 39-12.

The third game of the night saw Team Peleliu came back from a near shut-out loss to defeat Local Force by one, 22-21.

George Matsuda hit two homeruns and drove in five runs, and Bradley Ngewakl ripped an inside-the-park grandslam to lead Specs sixth inning shut-out over Team Familia Spec jumped out on top 6-1 after two innings of play and never looked back the rest of the way.

The win improved Spec’s record to 9-6. and dropped Familia to 6-8.

Mario Aguon’s three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth ends the game on a 10-run-rule shut-out as Team Sedi Kau upset the Angeaur Comets 20-10.

Aguon and Bruce Norita each blasted out two homeruns to lead Sedi Kau Brien Nicolas hit two out, and John Reyes and Cris Palacios each knocked out one in a losing effort. It was all Comets after one inning of play, 7-1, but Sedi Kau then took advantage of the absence of Comets starter and clean-up batter JoJo Attao to outscore the Comets 19-3 the rest of the way for the shut-out. The win improved Sedi Kau’s record to 11-4 and dropped the Comets to 14-2.

Team Local Force were just one run away from stopping the game in the fifth by virtue of the 10-run-rule leading 21-12, but with the winning run on board with no cuts, they faltered going 1-2-3 to continue the ballgame.

Sensing an opportunity that Local Force did not capitalize on, Team Peleliu then made a run exploding for 10 big runs in the top of the seventh highlighted by Jake Koshiba’s three-run homer and Ryan Francisco’s two-run triple to take the lead, 22-21. Peleliu then held off Local Force for the come-from-behind victory.

Greg C. Camacho and brother Tony each drove in seven runs to share the RBI’s lead with 57, overtaking Gloyd Martin with 54 as the Camacho Roots rolled over Toles Gone in the final game of the night, 39-12. It was a close game after two innings of play with the Roots leading 13-6 before the Roots then went on a rampage outscoring
Toles Gone 25-6 in the next three innings to keep their pennant hopes alive with their 15th win in 17 games.

The loss dropped Toles Gone to, 1-14.
