Some stellar play at setter by Kadya Peter led No Fear to beat the Misfits 11-7, 10-12, 11-0 Thursday in the opening match of the Miller Four Person Beach Volleyball which kicked off Thursday night at the Pacific Islands Club.

No Fear looked strong in the first set, but let a lead slip away in set two to lose 10-12. They rebounded with a shutout in the third and final set.

The second match of the night saw Managaha battle with Fresh Spring Rolls that was decided in the third set. FSR came out on top, 11-4, 6-11, 11-5. Led by the Bangkok bomber, Nan Intharaluk, FSR pounded the Managaha in the first set, but Dan Westphal and crew refused to go down. They came back strong in the second set and looked as though they might win the third set after a huge block by Westphal. Tough serving down the stretch by Yuko Hirokawa pulled it out for FSR.

Game three showcased the Hot 98sters in their hip looking tank tops. They had no light task in front of them by facing Doug Mauro and his band of Len’s Junk.

The first set went to Len’s Junk. The brilliant serving of Mauro baffled the Hot98sters. They even took star player and captain, Searay Beltran, out of the rotation. The second set was different story. Len’s Junk ran into ball control problems and Beltran’s squad picked up the next two sets winning the match, 11-6, 6-11, 5-11.

The final match was a battle of high school youth versus experienced Pacific Islands Club veterans. The MHS Dolphins were up 10-3 in the first set, but the vocal G-Money and Crew came back to win 12-10. They then went on to win the next two games and the match, 12-10, 11-41, 11-2. This game also saw the return of volleyball legend Wendi Herring. She came up with several great digs and some motivational words for her team when they were down in the first set.
