As the Red Cross enters its final week of preparation and planning for the 14th Annual Red Cross Walkathon, fun appears on the horizon. As in past years, five aid stations will be set up along the route to cheer on walkers and thank them for their support of the Red Cross, but this year there will be other free fun activities in store as well.

“At each aid station, we will have volunteers clowning and providing entertainment for the walkers and at 9:00 a.m. activities will be offered such as a batting cage, dunking booth, face painting and others related to our Carnival theme. We are also having a special prize for new and expectant mothers and an additional prize drawing for which all participants are eligible. The idea is to make being part of the Red Cross fun for the participants, especially the youth to encourage them to make volunteering part of their lives and to continue their support of the Red Cross throughout their lives”, said executive director Cassandra Ely.

The walkathon is scheduled for Saturday, March 18, 2000, with registration opening at 6:00 a.m. at the Kilili Beach Park. The entire walk is 10K and will proceed up and down the Beach Road pathway.

For more information or to obtain walkathon forms, interested persons may call the chapter office at 234-3459.
