Business 'doctor' comes to CNMI

During the first week of April, Douglas Hammel, better known as "The Business Doctor," will arrive in the CNMI to give a seminar geared to assist local small business owners experiencing financial difficulties.

During the first week of April, Douglas Hammel, better known as “The Business Doctor,” will arrive in the CNMI to give a seminar geared to assist local small business owners experiencing financial difficulties.

Mr. Hammel, an MBA and Certified Business Development Specialist from Olympia, Washington, has presented the workshop “Business 911!” The Emergency Manual for Turning Your Small Business Around at national conventions, and to business owners throughout the United States.

The Northern Marianas College Small Business Development Center (SBDC), with co-sponsorship from the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, will host Mr. Hammel’s nationally-renowned business turnaround workshop on Thursday, April 6th at Charley’s Cabaret in the Pacific Islands Club. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m.

The workshop will run the entire day with a break for lunch. Tinian residents will have the chance to meet Mr. Hammel when he comes to the island-municipality on April 5th, and in Rota on April 8th.

Business 911 will redefine your business planning process into the appropriate sequence for a business turnaround. The process presented is equally valuable for crisis management, profit improvement, or businesses wanting to expand. This workshop leads the business owner through solving the cash crisis, getting control of finances, addressing personal and personnel issues, refocusing marketing, and long-term planning. The workshop will be presented in a multimedia format and includes interactive group problem solving sessions for lowering costs, process redesign, and identification of critical motivators.

Mr. Hammel has devoted more than 20 years to the study of small business and counseled more than 1,000 small business clients since 1988 in his capacity as a Business Development specialist. His ground breaking techniques have been developed over the past two years while working with more than one hundred clients.
