Jammers win Rocball Championship
Phillip Rudolph of the Jammers had 12 kees for 24 points to lift his team against the Chuukanos and grab the World Rocball Championship title after winning game five in four sets juice 58 to 33 last Thursday.
Rudolph was named MVP of the series after averaging 19.8 points per game in deuces and three-point goals. In heavy hitting, he scored an ace, four xunks, 41 kees, and two goals for 98 points in the five-game championship series against the Chuukanos.
The Jammers had to come from behind twice to overtake the finally defeat the Chuukanos in the fifth game. In game 1, when the regulation quarter/set system of play ended, neither team was able to juice-out and they were tied at 55. The Chuukanos went on to win game one in triple O-kon by goals.
In game two, trailing 1 to 0, the Jammers dominated the play action and juiced the Chuukanos in four sets, 63 to 40, to even the series at 1 to 1. In the Game 3, the Jammers outscored the Chuukanos 44 to 38 but failed to end the quarter/set system of play in a winning set and therefore failed to juice-out.
For into O-kon again, the Chuukanos took advantage and once again defeated the Jammers in triple overtime. Game 3 gave the lead in the series back to the Chuukanos 2 to 1.
In Game 4, the Jammers came out strong and beat the Chuukanos in set one and two 15 to 7 and 15-9. The Chuukanos won set three at 15 to 8 and there were held scoreless for the rest of the game. The Jammers came back in this set of the game and scunked the Chuukanos 9 to 0 for the juice and game at 47 to 31.
The fifth and final game, the Chuukanos struck hard and fast to win the first set at 15 to 8, but the Jammers rallied, and with the help of Rudolph’s offensive and defensive scoring, went on to win the next three sets, juice-out 56 to 33.
