UMDA-CNMI Junior Tennis Championships came to close Sunday after three days of intense competition. The event is one of a kind in that it is organized by kids for kids.
Tournament director Hee Seung Kim did a good job and kept the tournament running smoothly while participating in the game himself, winning the boys 18 and under singles by defeating Gerald Boyer in a close match of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Kana Aikawa had once again claimed the 18 and under girls victory, winning over her doubles partner, Hannah Borja with a score of 6-3, 6-3.

Girl’s 14 and under was won by Andrea Hofschneider, which was her first time in playing a tournament, against Rica Dela Cruz, 61, 6-3.

Boy’s 10 and under singles was the most popular event in the tournament with 12 participants. Keith Gabaldon and Mitchell Sinclair reached the final, with Gabaldon coming out on top 6-0.

Meanwhile, in the girl’s 10 and under, talented Lila Mailman bested Mayuko Arriola, also a talented girl who’s playing a real tournament for the first time, 6-1, for the title.

In the boy’s 18 and under doubles, Hee and Tim Quan proved too much for Daniel Sohn and Jun Mun Chung who defeated them 6-3, 6-3. Gaku Matsumura and Keith Gabaldon teamed up to bring the victory over the Buenaventura brothers, 6-2, 6-4.

In girl’s 12 and under doubles, Rena Dador and Andrea Hofschneider downed Rika Matsumoto and Rica Dela Cruz, 6-2, 6-2.
