Marianas Baptist Academy (MBA) has selected Mina Yu, an 8th grader, and Estelle Hofschneider, a high school senior, as students of the month.

Mina Yu is the daughter of Robert and Cindy Yu of Chalan Kanoa District #3. Last month, Mina ranked number 2 in the island-wide Mathcounts Chapter Competition, second only to younger sister Faye, also a student of MBA.

This month, Mina ranked first in the CNMI Mathcounts Championship, earning her another trip to the national competition in Washington D.C., where she also competed last year. Mina is on the MBA’s principal list, an Honor Roll which requires grades of 93 or higher in all subjects.

The MBA High Student of the Month, Estelle, is the daughter of Hedwig and Amy Hofschneider of San Antonio. Estelle recently won first place among over a hundred other participants in the CNMI Covenant Day Essay Writing Contest and was selected as one of the two Best Prosecution Attorneys at the Mock Trial Competition. She will be one of the three top students to represent MBA in the island-wide Panasonic Academic Challenge Bowl competition. Estelle has been consistently in the Principal’s List for the past four years and is the president of the MBA Student Council
