Cop's attacker charged
It started as one of those domestic disputes. On April 8, 2000, at around midnight, Piro Belisman Hamo, 40, had an argument with his wife Fabian Kaipat Ilo. He slapped her several times, grabbed her hair and dragged her toward the door.
Not contented, he took the machete in the kitchen and went out of the house, wanting to pick up a fight with anyone.
When he saw Police Officer John Cabrera arrived, Mr. Hamo attacked him with the machete but missed, hitting the policeman’s face. A neighbor, Silvestor Robert Defang who witnessed the incident, tried to grab the machete with Mr. Hamo as both of them wrestled on the ground.
The Attorney General’s Office has filed charges of assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon against Mr. Hamo before the Superior Court.
