Students from the Hokkaido Akkesi Fishery and Engineering High School in Hokkaido, Japan were on island over the weekend and planted flame trees on the road at the northern end of the island.

Approximately 15 members, which included 12 students and 3 staff members from this trade high, participated in the tree planting event in Marpi. The students were part of a contingent that arrived on board the “Hokuho Maru” from Hokkaido and is currently at Charlie Dock.

Every year, students from this high school go abroad as part of their regular studies in fishery operations. For the past few years, Saipan has been their last port of call before returning home.

The group plans to stay approximately four days in Saipan before returning to Hokkaido. Pacific Micronesia Tours helped coordinate this event.
